In my group we had the Montessori, Waldorf, Roots of Empathy and then I did the Young families program.
From our group discussion that we had I found that the Montessori and Waldorf programs to be very similar and have some of the same philosophies behind them. I like the natural materials that both programs seemed to us and the indication that they set the room up for a calming atmosphere. This way of educating and or the environment for a preschool would work for some children but not for all. When I look at my own children, I don’t think they either of these atmospheres would benefit either of them.
I have never heard of the Roots of Empathy approach before this program. I was really interested in this method of educating our children. I believe in the same philosophy that our future is sitting in the classrooms right now. Guiding children to be able to solve problems with empathy and imagination in today’s society is HUGE. We need our future to be able to think with calm minds and not anger retaliation.
The program I researched was the Young Families program and of course this is a program I agree with. Everyone should be treated with respect regardless of a decision or situation they have been given. Giving young moms the chance to finish school gives them the chance to have a future.
